Perfect! I used beewax, molten, a small brush and I put the prepped part in a electric oven at 70 degrees Celcius for half an hour. The wood soaks up the wax. The fun is in using the weel!
The idea is really cool but THE TOOTHPICKS! I can’t get the thing to properly work because it just keep seizing up, even after putting wax all over it. So please get back to me on how I could possibly fix this

I was having a problem with the toothpicks being tight. Ended up waxing all the toothpicks before installing them. Made assembly. much easier. Great craftsmanship and precision. Well done. Cheers!
Lovely to build and easy instructions. Nice to look at too. However. The toothpick spindles are a disaster. Impossible to get the mechanism working after many tries then the toothpick holding the rubber band broke! Needs rewiring with proper axles and bearings, should not be an expensive upgrade.

Hi Andrew!
Thank you for your feedback.
Toothpicks can break with strong tension on them from the rubber band. Do not tighten the rubber band, there should be moderate tension. If you need spare parts or toothpicks, fill in a form for spare parts on our dedicated page - https://ugearsmodels.com/request-for-additional-parts.html
At the begining it was very difficult not to break the "tooth picks", but with pacience and a bit of skill is easy. They also send free pieces if the ones you had were lost or broken.

Hi Gonzalo!
Thank you for your feedback!
Very disappointed, with such a high price kit I would suggest you replace the weak and imprecise “tooth picks” axles with metal diameter rod with 2mm diameter and precise lengths. The tool used to determine the lengths of the axle actually squashes the tooth picks making the short and therefore free to drop out of the holes.

I'm frankly quite disappointed. I read all the comments and thought this would be fun. But it's only frustrating. The toothpicks keep breaking and it really hurts my finger, even with pliers to get them in. I'm not finished yet but I'm somehow done. Not motivated to keep going. Which is sad, because I'm sure it would look nice.

My husband has enjoyed putting this together, except for the breaking of the toothpicks. Ha!
One question: We were not sure what size of rubber band is needed.
It would be nice to have a list of other things you need (that are not included in the kit --like the rubber band). And although pictures seem the way to go on the instructions, a website with the worded instructions would certainly help to answer questions on assembly. The video in a foreign language does not help.

Dear Rita,
in the Timer for 20 minutes model we use the rubber band of 1,5 mm width and 60 mm in diameter. In case, you need extra toothpicks or spare parts, please, feel free to contact us at myugears@ugearsmodels.com. We would ask you to provide us with your postal address, the list of the required parts and the photos of the corresponding board or detail. The Ugears team will send the requested spare parts to the address provided in your e-mail free of charge in an envelope by post. So you can complete your model. The most convenient way is to fill out this application form for spare and replacement parts. https://ugearsmodels.com/faq.html
We are making/translating the assembly videos in English and will add to our website soon. Thank you for your recommendation reagarding e worded instructions. We will add them in the format of the answers to frequently asked questions to each model
Have a nice day,

Wonderful piece of art work! I suggest bamboo tooth stick could have a stronger material strength; more uniform shaft diameter and profile. This may lead to more fluent building process.

Dear Yeun-Jung Wu,
thank you for your kind words and your suggestions how to improve building process. The bamboo tooth sticks is a great idea thought this kind of products is quite rear in the USA, Canada and European Union. Anyway, we will think about this with our team

Hi,
Timer works well and is amazing. Just one issue with the moving top wheel. When used without the wheel, it works well but when wheels are on the movement is very slow and the whole timer is blocking. Any tips how to fix this?thanks
Administrator
Hi Petra,
thank you for your feedback.
First of all make sure, that the toothpicks are straight and are not completely cramped (there should be a tiny backlash). Also make sure, that the bent and fishing line are well strained. Also adjust the amplitude of the oscillation with the regulator
Utterly brilliant !
My timer has taken a while to build and there were a few frustrating episodes along the way but it is just a really beautiful thing and works perfectly.
I found the best way of dealing with the toothpicks into small holes was to use two chopping boards close together, hold the toothpick gently with pliers and then softly hammer the top of the pliers to drive the toothpick home in small increments.
Anyway - keep up the good work UGears - I will be back for more !

It was a great Christmas gift, thanks to my wife. :) I personally don't use the rotating things on top, because it's too slow, and sometimes get stuck.

Build the timer over the last two days and I'm very pleased! Works like a charm and was a real pleasure to build. Watching it tick quietly away is truly calming and pleasing :-). Thanks UGears!
