Steam Locomotive with Tender
The UGEARS 460 Locomotive with Tender combines all of the technical and artistic innovations that builders have come to appreciate in our other models and takes them a step beyond. Richly detailed with an eye toward realism and romance, our version of this indelible symbol of 19th century technology and adventure captures the imagination of all who see it. It’s no wonder it was such a hit during our Kickstarter campaign.
Our locomotive is driven by rubber bands and a gear array instead of superheated steam, but otherwise its main mechanism looks and operates very much like that of a real steam engine. Up close you can see working asynchronous pistons and valves that transfer power to the locomotive’s drive wheels through a moving system of rods, linkages and cranks.
Small touches like a fully detailed engineer’s cab with retractable step ladder, art-deco boiler trim, and open-up Tender with coal doors complete this beautiful reminder of a bygone era. The UGEARS 460 Locomotive with Tender is our largest, most complex model to date; yet thanks to our patented plywood joint design and rigorous engineering and quality control process, a hobbyist can complete this model in a single sitting. Like all other UGEARS models, the Locomotive with Tender comes with step-by-step, full-color, truly easy to follow instructions.

Warning! Small parts.
Some problems with this model:
1.There was no wax included.
2.Some strings were missing.
3.There were some mistakes in the instructions (for example, the incorrect number of pieces).
4.It was hard to extract the parts from the plate.
5.It was physically more difficult to assemble the mechanism.
6.Using toothpicks as connectors turned out to be a bad idea.
7. Joins is too tired. That's why the toothpicks breaks.
Some advantages of this model:
1.It looks cool.
2.It can move, although not very well.
3.It was interesting to build. For example, the first model I assembled was a cash register — it was more interesting and physically easier.

Good quality wood, no breakage. Toothpicks take some getting used to. When finished, the engine worked but needed a slight push to get started.
Would love to have a passenger car and caboose to make a complete set.

A challenging yet very fun build! Mine kind of stutters as it goes along the ground but I honestly think that's operator error and nothing about the design!
The model is quite high-quality, all units work smoothly and without any hitches. The only thing is that in the free-running mode the key moves jerkily, apparently the tension of the rubber affects it, pressing it to the front wall. There were two typos in the instructions, which did not affect the quality of the assembly. I find the decision to use toothpicks quite interesting and practical, but I still wished there were fewer of them. I was pleased with the model, as well as the assembly, which took me about 6 hours.
it was a gift for my brother who was delighted with it and looks forward yto assembling it.
Excellent kits go together very well ,strong and sturdy.
Good quality!
Really good construction exercise for my grandson.
One difficulty - it was difficult to put multiple pieces on the tooth picks - I had to drill out the holes to allow this to be done
Its pretty good
