Hexapod Explorer
Introducing the Ugears Hexapod Explorer: part insect, part robot, part extraterrestrial rover. Driven by a powerful spring motor, the Hexapod Explorer can walk up to 3 meters on its own legs, without need of an auxiliary or supporting wheel like other models have. The ability to bear its own weight, on the legs alone, allows the Hexapod Explorer to navigate slightly rough terrain, like a planetary rover stepping out of the capsule to explore new worlds. Another amazing feature that makes our walker unique is that the Hexapod Explorer comes with a variable speed dial. You can make your robo-bug creep, crawl, or skitter at any speed you want!
The internal spring is wound with a ratchet key located on the belly. Crank the model up, set it down, choose the desired speed using the dial on the Hexapod's head, then release the "go" switch at the rear to set the model in motion. You can change speeds at any time, either mid-run or on the next go.
Hexapod Explorer features:

Warning! Small parts.

This is a fun puzzle. Not too difficult if you follow the instructions. More importantly, make sure you sand and wax all round parts and the holes they go into; along with all gears. Sometimes sand between teeth to make sure there are no wooden remnants. It moves down the hallway fast. I can't get it to walk slowly. You will need to run the gears while holding the hexapod to mesh the gears to run smoothly several times.
superbe
The ugears wooden models are really enjoyable to build. They are very strong when built and wirk well. The instruction booklet is top quality. This won't be my last purchase.
Una maravillosa experiencia. El pedido tardo un poco llegar pero el modelo era increíble!
Better than LEGO! Great fun to build, works unimaginably well! I tip my hat to the designers. Not for people with sensitive fingers, though. It's hard to put the pieces together, but when they do, it's soooo satisfying.
J’ai acheté le produit sur le marché de noel de Dijon.
L’hexagone arrive à marcher une fois sur dix et le problème c’est qu’on ne peut pas dérouler la bobine pour la refouler et la faire marché
Fantastic design, great to build, works as shown.
Just love these kits have ordered the mars rover to drool over next.
A partial success I guess. The precision of the laser cut parts is astounding and it all clips together without too much troube, tho you do have to be VERY careful to note the exclamation mark warnings.
Once built, however, the hexapod was very disappointing. The legs flail around a bit and it does manage to walk a short way across the floor - maybe a meter or so. Then it stops. A prod will sometimes get it going again and a finger underneath to lift it slightly seems to help. It struggles to lift it's own weight when putting its legs down.
Maybe the supplied candle wax isn't a good enough lubricant - I notice another reviewer mentions graphite. It's a pity I didn't see that before I started!
The build kept me out of trouble for a few hours but, all in all, very disappointing and I couldn't recommend it.
Tinc 10 anys i me l'han regalat per l'aniversari. M'ha encantat
An excellent model to build. I have learnt to use graphite as the anti friction medium on the gears and the wax on flat surfaces.
The legs work really well when switched on but it doesn't walk too far, requiring prodding from time to time. When picked up the legs flail around for quite a while. I suspect there is too much friction between the rubber bands on the feet and the surface it is travelling over. Put it on a marble worktop and it travelled much further.
