V8 Engine
Assemble me. Fire up your passion for mechanics!
V8 engines, with their signature roar, are synonymous with automotive power. Thanks to the balanced arrangement of two banks of four cylinders in a V configuration, V8 engines produce less vibration than six-cylinder engines, allowing for a larger engine with greater horsepower. Patented in 1902 by French engineer Léon Levavasseur, the V8 is most widely known for providing the muscle in muscle cars, but did you know V8 engines were first used extensively in powerboats, and have even been used in airplanes and motorbikes?
Motorheads and modeling enthusiasts have been asking us for years for a complex engine model, and here it is – the Ugears V8 Engine! This one's for all you gearheads, motorheads, pistonheads, petrolheads, grease monkeys, and car connoisseurs. The V8 Engine from Ugears is a bit of a brag – from us to our customers when we designed it, and from you to your friends and family when you build it. The thing is, we get you. We share your love of all things mechanical. Our team is made up of people who simply have to know how things work, and we want to help others learn too.

The V8 Engine fully replicates all the main mechanisms in a real V8, including eight cylinders with pistons moving in cycle, with two cylinders "firing" for every 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation; 16 spring-loaded valves opening and closing as they are pushed by heads on the rotating camshafts, crankcase and valve train components linked with a timing chain, and a throttle valve on the intake manifold. Connect the model to a power source using a USB-C cable, then flip the on/off switch to "on" to watch your engine come to life, or manually set the V8 Engine in motion by twisting the knob located under the on/off switch.

V8 Engine features:
- 1:6 scale engine model of an iconic internal combustion engine
- Can be operated using an electric motor or manually by turning a knob
- Electric motor styled as a generator
- 8 cylinders with pistons moving in cycle
- 16 spring-loaded valves opening and closing
- Engine accessories: A/C compressor, alternator, power steering pump and water pump
- Other realistic details: stylized exhaust manifolds, spark plugs, oil pan, dipstick, etc.

DIY wooden engine features:
- Assembles without glue or tools
- Assembled in stages—first the cylinder block, then the valve blocks
- Step-by-step instructions in 11 languages
- Replaceable rubber band on the front of the engine
- 32-link timing chain with adjustable tension (using two tensioners)

Warning! Small parts.
I seek challenging kits and this one delivered. I took extreme care to smooth and wax any parts that have relative motion and was rewarded by a first time smooth running.
Challenging build! I’m taking my time. I am amazed at the engineering in these models. I think this one will take some time. Keep up the good work!
Love it!
Although I've been an aeromodeller for decades, I've never attempted this kind of model before, and bought it to pass away the the quiet hours on a cruising holiday. it didn't disappoint.
The design and precision of the pre-cut ply parts is quite astonishing, as is the comprehensive nature of the instructions. The QR-linked videos did come in handy on a couple of occasions, so they're a real bonus.
As warned in the instructions, the timing chain took a bit of fettling and stretching to get it to fit comfortably over the gear trains, but all was OK in the end.
The finished model functions very nicely, and the pre-assembled micro motor/gearbox assembly is a little work of genius in its own right.
Would I recommend it? Yes, certainly - but it's not a kit for anyone with a short span of attention or for a bored child on a rainy afternoon. This is a real project in its own right, that took me around 15 hours of considered and careful assembly.
Love it!
Although I've been an aeromodeller for decades, I'd never attempted a kit of this type before, so I bought this kit to build on a cruising holiday for a bit of a challenge in the cabin down time. It didn't disappoint.
I'm amazed by the design and precision of the laser-cut ply pieces. The instructions are well presented, with the QR code-activated videos providing a little clarity for the trickier bits.
The wooden timing chain needed a modicum of fettling and stretching, to get it to run smoothly over the gear trains, but that's covered in the instructions.
The finished model is quite a conversation piece now it's completed, and runs smoothly on USB power - the motor's pre-assembled little gearbox is beautiful in itself.
Would I recommend it? Certainly, but it's not a quick build for those with limited patience, or as a diversion for a bored child. This is a project in its own right, and needs care and patience to complete.
I bought the V8 engine for my husband for Christmas, and he loves it! He is a retired journeyman machinist, and it really appeals to his precise nature! And what's even better, it will work once he gets it all assembled.
This is the fourth kit that I have built and so far I am about 48% finished. I am having difficulty i keeping the cam lobes moving off of the small springs. My biggust headache has been the assembly of the chain. I cannot keep some of the links from coming apart during assembly and also during the chain installation. What is the secret to install? Any chance of getting an assembled chain. I have roughly have 40 hours into the build Overall an excellent challage
Hey there!
Thanks for your feedback 😊

Excellent produit. Rien a redire. Il faut lire la notice et ajuster les pieces avec soin. Ne pas hésiter à utiliser le papier verre sur certaines pieces.
