Trimaran Merihobus
The Trimaran Merihobus is a classic multihull sailboat designed to showcase an impressive array of details, including winches, rigging, and hulls—making it a highly realistic miniature replica of real-life prototypes. The body of the sailboat is built in an open “skeleton” style, providing excellent visibility of the inner mechanisms and design, including such features as bulkheads, frames, and beams. The rear rudder blade is controlled by ropes connected through the pontoons to the master wheel at the stern. Hydrofoils on the sides of the pontoons ensure stability and create the visual effect of lift. The pontoons are attached to the main hull with a load-bearing frame that matches the style of the boat and includes a boat davit mechanism with a winch.
The mainsail and fore staysail on the mast can be raised or lowered, just like on real trimarans. The mainsail is set on the mast groove using the main top halyard, while the staysail rolls up on its stay. At the front, under the bowsprit, you’ll find the staysail’s winch drum. Sail booms are controlled by a lever that pulls the boom sheet. And of course, there’s a delightful final touch—a tiny seahorse carved into the bow of the boat. This curious sea creature, also known as a merihobus, gave your vessel its name.

Warning! Small parts.

This was the first model I've done from ugears and it won't be the last. I did have a lot of pieces flake but nothing that made a piece unusable, never used any of the spare parts included. I do wish there was a little more detail in the directions, especially with the "ropes", but I didn't find any errors with what was shown and if I looked long enough at how everything was situated it could be worked out. This is an advanced model. If it was marketed as easy I would've rated it differently. I do wish I could do it all again, to tighten up some lines and do some of the things that I wasn't initially as diligent about - sanding down the part attachment points especially (also I can't remember if this was in the directions but waxing the "rope" makes it easier to thread and it allows it to move more smoothly, would definitely recommend that)
I thought this build was amazing, the entire model was beautiful, there were a few instances where it was challenging, but the reward made it so fufilling. This set was the best birthday present ever.
This is the worst of the Ugear Models that I have built. The instruction books was terrible and I had to guess were things went. Lots of pieces "chipped" when they were removed from the boards. Some of the sequence of building was wrong and some of the design was good in theory but not very practical
I got this model 2 years ago as a present. Sadly the toothpicks were considerably too thick to fit into the predrilled holes. I had to grind every single toothpick off to make it thinner. They were also too strong to be cut by a cardboard cutter so I had to buy a wood saw. Considering the high number of required toothpicks, the building became more and more annoying cause it mainly consists of preparing the toothpicks for me. It was also frustrating when they broke during preparing.
I stoped building the, per se beautiful, model, when I realized that two elements with each 5 toothpicks should be rotatable (the 2 winches at the sides). Since I grinded them off only until they fit barely into the holes, the winches absolutely not moveable in my model.
So sad, I really was enthusiastic when I first saw the model but was left frustrated and with an unfinished model. The included toothpicks are just not suitable for the drilled holes.
I got this model for my birthday and i had a lot of fun building it. I am now looking for some other models to build. I think its a really good birthdaypresent.
:)
