Assemble & Watch the fish swim!

The Mechanical Aquarium from Ugears is an ingenious saltwater aquarium, with two pet tropical fish chasing each other around a forest of macroalgae fronds, inside of which hides another small inhabitant of the marine environment—a seahorse! The fish and algae rotate simultaneously and in parallel, at different speeds and in different directions, simulating the smooth, undulating rhythms of underwater plant and animal life. The elegant fish look like they are really swimming as they move their heads and tails side-to-side.

To set the model in motion, wind the knob under the aquarium with approximately 25 half-turns, flip the switch from "STOP" to "SWIM" mode, then watch as your Mechanical Aquarium comes to life! The mechanism contains an internal pendulum to regulate and smooth the movement. We have designed this model to be the very definition of operational simplicity for users: one switch, two modes. You can stop the model at any time, or just let it go and enjoy the movements of the automaton fish and fronds for about 40 seconds.

    This thing is amazing. I thought the fish would just rotate around, but they actually swim. couple bits of advice though, at first the mechanism didn't work, obviously make sure everything is put together right, but it needs to be worn in a little. at first I forced to move wondering why it didn't move on its own, but eventually it started to but would just go short bursts. Just tapping it would make it go again and doing this multiple times it eventually would just go completely on its own. second, make sure to keep all the little bits and pieces in a small bowl or dish. I almost sent an email begging for a piece I had lost until it finally turned up.

    It is an excelent product but i have a problem with a pair of piece. They are broken. Where i can buy it?

    Fantastic Model, love the mechanism very much. Insane Detail and wirks perfectly.
    Be aware, my model did not work at first, too, as I filled the gears with wax which blocked them when I had to check the mechanism during construction and initially I could not move the gears by hand. USE A HAIRDRYER ON MEDIUM TEMPERATURE TO MELT THE WAX CAREFULLY. Therefore, just wind the spring, activate „swim“ and direct the warm air to the gears.
    It took just 2 minutes until the mechanism ran super smoothly.

    I collected a lot of different models and it’s definitely difficult to surprise me, but there was the joy of a small child, how gracefully the fish swim, smoothly move their tail and head, an inexpressible pleasure, besides, the aquarium is very beautiful.     Insgesamt bin ich von den Ugears Bausätzen begeistert, habe schon einige davon und außer dem Aquarium funktionieren alle problemlos. Beim Aquarium bestehen mehrere Probleme für mich: Wenn ich den äußeren Zahnkranz montieren, wird die bis dahin gute Beweglichkeit behindert. Ferner behindern im Inneren die Tangblätter sich in der Bewegung mit den Fischen. Das finde ich sehr problematisch, da ich bis dato kaum Probleme mit den Bausätzen hatte. Ich habe auch versucht, die Bewegung mit dem äußeren Zahnkranz durch Schmierung mit normaler Vaseline zu optimieren, aber auch das hilft nicht wirklich. Gibt es da evtl. ähnliche Erfahrungen und vielleicht Lösungen?

    This is a beautiful model but will not work. Can't get it to turn. Seems like the spring is just not strong enough. Like it, but would love it if it worked!

    I've built 10 different wood models, and this is my favorite. It's an easy build (I'm 67, and some kits are very challenging with my bad eyes and shaky fingers). And the result is fun to look at, especially when moving - lots of action.
