U-9 Grand Prix Car
The thrill of speed, the roar of engines, wheel-to-wheel battles, and shiny frames flashing before the eyes of a wildly excited audience of early car races—it’s all there in Ugears’ fascinating U-9 Grand Prix Car, based on iconic designs from the golden age of the automobile industry at the beginning of the 20th century. Adopting the sleek, flowing lines of old Formula One prototypes, Ugears engineers and designers gave this model an exquisite and truly elegant “old-school” appearance, highlighted by an external belt drive and other striking design elements.
Under the hood of this model, you’ll find a V8 engine equipped with a powerful fan and 16 fully functioning valves. To wind it up, just use the hand crank at the front. Your new vehicle features a link rod and a transmission with three modes: idle, reverse, and race ahead, baby! The U-9 has a spring-suspended front fork and rubberized wheels, ensuring smooth but rapid acceleration and an extended driving range.

U-9 Grand Prix Car features:
- Realistic V8 engine
- Moving fan and 16 functional valves
- 3 transmission modes: Idle, Reverse, and Drive
- Rubberized wheels for better traction
- Spring-suspended front fork for added realism

Warning! Small parts.
Sadly, I may be defeated by rubber bands. I was a little disappointed by the use of toothpicks. I had recently built a couple of other models, from another vendor, that relied heavily on toothpicks. No a fan of toothpicks.
That's the biggest reason for the 3 stars...toothpicks and rubberbands. Not a fan, I fear the other build will be a similar complaint. Ah well.
awaiting some spares for completion
It may be an unfair rating at this time, as I am still working on it. I am on the verge of losing patience because of the difficulty of installing the rubber bands. Getting the thick bands into the tiny slots, especially when the slot already has a band in it, is extremely difficult, to say the least. Very time consuming to get past this step. I have built other Ugear models, none have caused me anywhere near the difficulty of just this one step. I will review again when I have finished assembly (I hope I get it done!)
I just finished this model. It was a real challenge to put this one together. The rubber band assemblies were the most challenging. Trying to get the thicker bands through the holes and all the same length was very difficult. I had to use all of the available spare parts because I kept breaking the parts. But i finally got it. Other than that this model is fantastic. It runs great!!! Make sure you use plenty of wax on the moving parts. I love these Ugears models. The problem is which one should I do next. You guys are great. I love these models. Please keep up the good work.
I use to build motorbike trikes, but due to poor health had to give it up. I saw these kits and thought I'd give it a go. As much I enjoyed building it, it does not work. I was very careful and applied the wax accordingly. Because it's wood may be it has absorbed moisture, which causes the joints to swell. After letting it stand, still no movement. When it is cranked. I can see the first cog moving but nothing else. Not impressed.
I really enjoyed putting this together. This was my first try at Ugears and I did break a couple parts that I was able to replace with a spare part except for one I was able to glue. If I didn’t show you you wouldn’t know. My only problem I can’t make it run. I guess a gear is not lined up and I am not going to take it apart to see. I will build another model and be more careful. I do think it is important to take your time building these. I was very impressed with how precise the parts fit together.
My my first ugear model and not my last one! Quality is fantastic and instructions are quite clear. I only made a couple of mistakes but I could resolve them. There are some spare parts but I didn’t need to use any of them.
It cost me 10h of work approx. It is recommended to use wax properly if you want your car to move, else there are too many friction. I had to put wax at the very end on the gears as if it was oil in a car. Quite funny.
Only one comment, I don’t understand the purpose of the wheel with rubber on the left side, plus it is the only part that doesn’t hold well and I had to put some glue there.
Only had this model 10 months and the exposed rubber bands have rotted already.very disappointed.
Fun to build, clever technically, looks sensational when finished.
Well done.
Absolutely fascinating to assemble it. The manual instructions it is powerful and very clear. It was a pleasure and relaxing to see this beautiful wooden machine growing up and the movies parts work all together!! Thank you and Stay safe!!

I am so proud of this model.
It is so beautiful!
Thank you for your production!
I also bought the "antique box" and the "butterfly": masterpieces!
The GP car proved to be an excellent and enjoyable model. The laser cut parts are very precise and they fit together well. The instruction manual is also excellent with clear concise diagrams and assembly tips. Construction of the rubber motors is challenging but achievable. The variable quality of the supplied cocktail sticks (that are needed throughout the assembly) means fit is too loose in many cases. I overcame this by using general purpose glue where necessary. Otherwise a brilliant model.
A great model. Maybe I should have started with an easier design and worked up to this one. But I got there in the end. Pistons and inlet and exhaust valves all worked. Engine bands were a challenge, but are possible. I will sand and wax parts better on my next one as once finished it doesn’t work as well as it could. My error. Fun to assemble and finished model looks great. Only negative: after a few months all the elastic bands have rotted. Once removed, model still looks great. Definitely an excellent product.
Just finished my first ugears model. The Grand Prix Car is probably a bit ambitious for the first experience but I finally managed to assemble it and it did work and looks fantastic!
I'm very impressed by the precise cutting of the wood plates and the fantastic user manual.
The only thing I need to improve for the next model is the cutting of the toothpicks: I probably need to buy a better knife...
Ukraine seems to be a very good place for for innovative ideas and arts (one of my favorite bands is also from there: Jinjer).
Congratulation to the whole team and please continue to create such precious "toys".
Kind regards from Switzerland
Stefan
Very very impressed. Instruction manual is clear, beautifully illustrated and straightforward to follow. All the parts were very precisely cut and fitted together easily, which I was surprised at, given similar kits in my experience need a bit of fettling to fit properly. Engine in particular has clearly benefitted from a lot of engineering thought, even down to different size inlet and exhaust ports, and is a real pleasure to see all the moving parts working together. In my experience the build time stated on the website is a bit optimistic, but the enjoyment is all in the build. Don't rush, pay very careful attention to all the illustrations in the build manual and enjoy. Am now building the Heavy Boy Truck!
I got this kit as a birthday present. Very clever design. Clearly designed by someone who enjoys their work. After abit of running in everything runs well.
Spitze macht weiter so.
This model has a great finished product and is really fun to build!
It was a great model its chalengin but still ease to build .It was the first model I buld and i loved it. the car had awesome features. and I will buy more Models in the futur.
I really loved this model. Nicely done ans fine result
The Grand Prix car is a wonderful kit. I have a lot of fun during assembling. Unfortunately, there are three things with needs improvement. 1)The ON/Off switch has wooden splice bar with a too strong spring action. If the splice bar arrested in the OFF position, it is not possible to move the switch into the ON position. I Think the splice bar is not necessary, because the friction on the ON/OFF switch itself is great enough to avoid any misleading movement.
2)The connection between front wheel a wheel shaft is very simple. I think, with a wheel shaft adapter there will be a better fit.
3) The rubber engine should be built with two rubber strings, I did my best, but for me it was impossible to put the two-rubber string in these tiny gaps at ground plate. A little more space or a bigger gap angle would be helpful at this step of assembling.
I honestly believe it is such a wonderful puzzle but the fact that the attachment in the motor snapped due to the pressure by the rubber bands and I had tiny parts fly everywhere multiple times at different points during building. It is causing me alot of distress and I lost a part that I already used its spare cause of the same issue. I dont know what to do at this point.
It is very wonderful so I will review it in Japanese.
