I've assembled at least 6 uGears models now -- easily the best brand out there. The dragon is one of the coolest-looking ones I've built, and it sits really nicely on top of its "roost" (my wifi router, which has enough antennas to look like a proper dragon nest). My one wish is that they might redesign it with a spring drive like the newer models use, instead of rubber bands since those break as they age.
A hint for folks who have issues with the mechanism binding: I recommend using paraffin-based tea lights for waxing the gears, since it's more slippery than the wax that ships with the model. Make sure to run the gears manually 5-10 times during each major step of assembly to make sure the model runs smoothly when it's built. And keep in mind, these are wood puzzles and wood isn't a low-friction material.
I echo all of these reviews. The shaft of part number eight sheared off, and it is from one of the very first steps of the model. Also, the ratchet gear broke on my first winding. However, I glued the ratchet into the bigger gear and I reconstructed the shaft of part number eight, then I opted to take out the winding guts and used a 60 RPM N2 miniature 6 V motor to motorize the model. It worked until the shaft on part number eight sheared off again due to the friction within the model, even after lubricating it all with graphite. I will come up with a solution, because it looks amazing when it is flapping its wings. I have contacted CustomerService about this.
My son absolutely loved it! Some sections were tricky and we had to watch a YouTube video to check the instructions. This was the 3rd ugears product we had built and every time I have been pleased with the quality of the product.
This was a fairly straightforward build, however, when I was winding it up the next day, something inside the dragon broke. (I think it was the axle) It still looks magnificent, but it can't flap its wings anymore.
I got this for Christmas from my son and it has been fun BUT it does not flap it wing s it binds up if you want something this is it but it's a bet tricky

Got this as a gift and was super excited when I realized it moved and when I built it it look super cool but right when I finished, something inside of the model broke (I’m thinking the ratchet gears) and now it won’t stay wound up, it just slips. It looks pretty cool still but I’m pretty disappointed because I didn’t even get to see it move finished once. I made sure everything was working properly every time I added a new piece like the paper said. I tried poking around at it for a while but I don’t think I’ll be able to fix it without taking the whole thing apart which is definitely more trouble than it’s worth.

My first model. A bit though to assemble due to my lack of experience, but the result is so satisfying !
I handled the pieces gently, and nothing broke. The mechanisms is working fine.
I want more like this !
I love the model so far, very detailed :) but I'm having some trouble with the model stopping even though it is still wound pretty tightly, and I'm having trouble troubleshooting it, is there anyway I can get help with this?

Got this from a family member. I was super excited to put it together, and I’ve now spent about five hours on it, but I’m still on page 13. My model refuses to wind, and a lot of the parts either make everything too tight or are ridiculously loose. It’s a cool model and it will go nicely on my shelf, but I got it for it to actually move.

Fantasztikus időtöltés volt összeépíteni. A model gyönyörű és tökéletesen működik. Voltak egyes részek, amiket kicsit megcsiszoltam, hogy biztosan jól mozogjanak.
Can I order the piece number 8 separately?

I have two of these, and both work great. And they both look too cool.

The Windstorm Dragon was my fifth Ugear model and while I enjoyed building all of them the dragon has become my favorite, just edging out the Horse. I play Dungeons and Dragons, have always been a fan of dragons, and this model is a highlight of my collection and I will incorporate it into my games.
Building a Ugear model is always a pleasure within itself. Having the Windstorm Dragon flapping its wings and body on my first try was just icing on the cake.
Thank you UGears!
Beautiful dragon. I pre-ordered it and it was deliver immediatly when it was out. No much trouble with buildin itself, but sadly the key you put in the chest of the dragon to spin it broke with the first try. I still can move it, but its very hard to grab.
I really enjoy looking at the model. On thing i want to point out is, that the elestic band in the stand wich hold the whole construct up is sadly too weak meanwhile. So the dragon is hanging backwarts an stands on its tail.
all in all its an awesome model.
Hay posibilidad de poner motor eléctrico ?
I wish I could reccomend this one because the finished result is beautiful, but unfortunately the mechanism just doesn't work well. The gears are overtaxed and because the set put two gears together to serve as one, the inner mechanism ends up really vulnerable. If you still want to try out this build, I'd reccomend gluing the two halves of the gears together to make them more durable, and make sure you don't string the neck too tight at the end.

Family member gave me this as a gift and I was super excited to try my hand at making it because it's a dope dragon design so duh. I've "finished" making it now, and I say "finished" because as someone else also found, I got most of the way through the model only for one of the gears on page 7 to break - I did attempt deconstruction but pretty quickly realised it's almost impossible to take apart without breaking even more so I've just resigned myself to having a cool dragon model that doesn't actually move. May purchase again in future to try again but for now this is what I'm stuck with.

I am nearly done building this set and it is beutiful, I love the model so much but my one complaint is that something in the gearbox (I'm assuming it's the ratchet gears) is broken or misaligned and now the model will not wind up. Since the gears in question were in place so early on, the only way I'd be able to check if that is what went wrong would be to completely disassemble the model. Other than this one problem this is a great set and a good challenge to build.

The double gear mechanism (two of the same gears side by side) needs work. Mine keep slipping past each other, causing it to stop and get stuck. It won't run properly now. Recommend a pin to hold the matching gears together.

This is the worst Ugears model I have ever seen. The design is awesome and it seems to have a nice movement but the mechanism is too stiff and at first it doesn't worked at all. When the model was almost finished an important piece in the mechanism that seemed thought enough just broke I can't open the mechanism because it was one of the first pieces so it is unfixable;now it doesn't move at all. This model is just disgusting. Believe me, even though it looks so nice don't buy it, it's a waste of money.

I must be doing something wrong. The model looks great on the package, and I am excitedly looking forward to finally finish the assembly and have it working. However, it's been 4 days and I am still having trouble assembling the main gear area. The wings are so loosely attached that they constantly fall off while I'm breathing as I'm trying to assemble the next set of gears and plates. Does anyone have an idea or trick that I am missing? It's getting very frustrating. Cheers,
Tom
