Assemble me. Catch the fluttering prize of Quidditch™
The elusive Golden Snitch, ultimate prize in the game of Quidditch from the magical wizarding world of Harry Potter™, is now available as a DIY Ugears wooden model. In Quidditch players fly around an aerial arena while trying to throw or hit a Quaffle ball through rings on their opponents' side of the field, scoring ten points each time they do. But any team whose Seeker catches the Golden Snitch scores 150 points and wins the game. Join the quest for the elusive golden prize when you build and play with the Snitch wooden mechanical model from Ugears!
The design of the Ugears Snitch is based on its descriptions and depictions in the beloved series of Harry Potter books and movies. This spring-driven DIY model has a pull string on top that winds an internal drum, setting the elegant, feathery wooden wings fluttering when the string is released. Hold the Snitch and watch it try to escape as it flaps its wings, or hold the pull ring with the model below, and be amazed as the Snitch flies up to meet your hand! When not in use you can rest the Snitch on its sleek and stylish mount for display on a table or shelf. You can also hang the model from a hook using the eyelet on the pull string, so that your Snitch is suspended in the air. The model has a silent ratchet system and the spring's tension is controlled using a pendulum, to regulate the action of the wings. The mount and body of the Snitch are made of 3mm thick art-quality composite wood, while the two delicate wings are made of 1.5mm thick composite wood. A spare wing is included in the kit.
In the Harry Potter books, the Snitch is described as a walnut-sized gold-coloured sphere with silver wings. In olden days, Quidditch Seekers would try to catch a little magical bird called a Golden Snidget. When the birds became endangered, the skilled metal-charmer Bowman Wright invented the Golden Snitch as a replacement. When you build the Ugears Snitch™ you become a skilled wood-charmer! Potterheads will know this is no ordinary Snitch, but Harry's own personal Snitch—the one he caught in his first game of Quidditch. Later the Snitch was presented to Harry by Dumbledore, who enchanted the device with a magical inscription: "I open at the close," and placed the Resurrection Stone inside. The significance of the inscription is revealed in a climactic scene in the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
The ingenious DIY Snitch model is an Easy-rated model in our new "SMART" product line—an intermediate category of mechanical models, somewhere between Mini and Standard models in terms of size and complexity. With only 120 parts, the Snitch can be built in approximately 3 hours. It joins the Hogwarts™ Express, Knight Bus™, Flying Ford Anglia™, Hagrid's Flying Motorbike™, Platform 9 ¾™ and Quidditch™ Pinball models in the Ugears Harry Potter™ collection. Everything you need to build and play with your Snitch comes in the box—no glue, additional tools or parts required. Just snap the pieces of your 3D puzzle together following the illustrated, step-by-step instructions in 11 languages (English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean). Be sure to sand and wax moving parts for optimal function (a piece of sandpaper and wax are included in the kit).
